Tinashe Finds Shelter From ‘Stormy Weather’ In Her Latest Video

<div _ngcontent-c17="" innerhtml="Tinashe's ″Stormy Weather″ music video made its debut on MTV on Thursday, December 26th. Tinashe’s “Stormy Weather” music video made its debut on MTV on Thursday, December 26th. YouTube / Tinashe – “Stormy Weather”Dedicated fans of Tinashe are familiar with her independently released mixtapes that skewed more towards dreamy cloud rap than the traditional pop and R&B direction that her former label was pushing her towards. Now a fully independent artist once again, Tinashe has enjoyed creative control over every part of her Songs For You album campaign, from the actual sounds she’s created to the visuals and promotional materials that have helped sustain the LP’s longevity following its iTunes chart-topping debut. “Stormy Weather” is one of the standout tracks on Songs For You, thanks to its seamless blending of the lo-fi production that has characterized much of her independent work in the past and an R&B tilt that still invites the listener to dance along to the minimal beat. The newly released video for “Stormy Weather” keeps the same energy as the song, with Tinashe and her backup dancers moving and contorting their bodies in mesmerizing ways not unlike the choreography in her popular “Company” video. As is customary with prior music videos, Tinashe and her dancers work together rather than the backup performers being simple props or background characters. The “Stormy Weather” video being filmed in black and white—combined with shots of Tinashe’s black silhouette against a white background—instantly recall her Nightride album cover art. Considering that Songs For You is a return to form of sorts that resembles much of the music on Nightride, small shoutouts like these go beyond simple fan service and instead speak to Tinashe’s self-awareness as an artist. It’s clear that Tinashe’s artistic trajectory has only been rising as she continues building her independent career with Songs For You. With the better part of a decade in music already under her belt, it’s easy to forget that the young triple threat performer is only just getting started. “>Tinashe's ″Stormy Weather″ music video made its debut on MTV on Thursday, December 26th.
