This Friday, New York City jazz ensemble Onyx Collective will drop a new single, titled “Blue Moon,” featuring gospel-infused Brooklyn singer Ian Isiah. A rework of the 1934 track by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, “Blue Moon” spotlights Isaiah’s powerful falsetto over the collective’s soothing instrumentals. Onyx Collective reworks the classic into a smooth, soulful single, evoking a sense of hopefulness and nostalgia.
Along with the single’s release this week, the collective has announced that their upcoming album, titled Manhattan Special: Onyx Collective Plays Rodgers & Hart / Rodgers & Hammerstein, will drop April 24 via TMWRK Records. Produced by Isaiah Barr of Onyx Collective and Jeremy Yohai of Concord Music Publishing, the album is comprised of reimaginations of songs from legendary songwriting duos Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein II, and, like “Blue Moon,” Rodgers & Lorenz Hart. These pairs are responsible for tracks such as “Spring Is Here,” “Miss Jones,” “Getting To Know You” and more.
“Blue Moon” follows previous song releases, including “When or Where” featuring Kelsey Lu and “My Funny Valentine” with Nick Hakim. Expect “Blue Moon” to release on March 27, while Manhattan Special: Onyx Collective Plays Rodgers & Hart / Rodgers & Hammerstein will drop April 24.
