Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are already making the most out of their new Hollywood lives. On September 2, Netflix announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a major multiyear deal with the streaming service focussed on documentary projects, feature films, televisions series, and children’s shows, per The New York Times. “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere,” Netflix’s co-chief executive and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, said in a statement obtained by the Times. The Duke and Duchess say their untitled production company will focus “on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”They continued in a statement, “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us. [Netflix’s] unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.” It’s reported that Netflix has 193 million subscribers worldwide.According to the Times, and confirmed by Harper’s Bazaar, Meghan Markle currently has no plans to work as an actor on any of their projects. The New York Times also reports that it’s unclear how much money the duke and duchess will make in this deal. Despite Markle and Prince Harry’s lack of production experience, this kind of deal is not unprecedented. Back in 2018, former president and first lady Barack Obama and Michelle Obama inked their own similar deal with the streaming giant. Their well-known titles already include the documentaries American Factory, Crip Camp, and Becoming.”One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” a statement from Barack Obama to The New York Times read at the time. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix—we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”Okay, but can someone please tell me how I can get one of these fancy deals? I have so many ideas for new true-crime docsRead More
