Four-piece outfit Free Nationals have finally dropped their self-titled debut album. Clocking in at approximately 40 minutes, the 13-track LP features a myriad of guest appearances that exhibit and highlight the flexibility of the group’s musicality as they jump from one sound to another.

Opening the album is contemporary soul polymath Shafiq Husayn with “Obituaries.” From there, collaborators like Daniel Caesar and Syd aid in developing the modern R&B sound on tracks like “Beauty & Essex” and “Shibuya,” while reggae artist Chronixx drives “Eternal Light” down a dancehall route. Anderson .Paak is rightfully present and smooth on “Gidget” and though he doesn’t stand as the album’s hip-hop representative, the Free Nationals enlist veteran T.I. on “Cut Me a Break,” the late Mac Miller on the Kali Uchis-assisted “Time,” Dreamville signee J.I.D. on “On Time” and Griselda‘s Westside Gunn on “The Rivington” to fill the project’s rap angle.

Stream Free Nationals on Spotify and Apple Music.

Elsewhere in music, Stormzy has released his latest album Heavy Is The Head.
