Pharrell and Robin Thicke Are Ordered To Pay Marvin Gaye’s Estate $7.3 Million

In this week’s news, Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke have been ordered to pay Marvin Gaye’s estate $7.3 million for copyright infringement for 2013 hit song “Blurred Lines”. The song contained an interpolation of Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit song “Got To Give Up”. The lawsuit states that there were multiple adverse claims from alleged successors in interest to those artists. Pharrell stated during the trial that the song stated feel and not infringement. The song “Blurred Lines” had generated $16.5 million. Marvin Gaye’s family had been seeking more than $25 million.
