Oprah Winfrey continues to receive praise for her powerful Golden Globes speech on Tuesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Sitting down with the host to discuss their new movie The Post, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks reacted to the many calls for Winfrey to run for president in 2020.
“Where do I send the check?” said Streep after DeGeneres noted that Winfrey’s longtime partner, Stedman Graham, told the Los Angeles Times that a White House bid is “up to the people” and Winfrey would “absolutely do it.”
Hanks brought the focus back to Winfrey’s inspiring speech. Accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement, Winfrey captured the momentum of the Time’s Up campaign and had the audience cheering and giving standing ovations.
“While she was speaking, out on the patio at the [Beverly] Hilton hotel… the waters separated in the pool,” said Hanks, comparing Winfrey to biblical figures. “Some of the staff were walking down along the tile from the deep-end and up and getting out. It stayed there for awhile and then it pushed back in. But she did part the waters right there — it was very, very impressive.”
